ScWIG: Soft Cleaning of Wire-Immobilized Genetic Material

nou Systems is developing a process for improved microbial monitoring in the human spaceflight environment to enable crew health risk assessments. Current processes are manual, involve substantial crew time, numerous consumables and piece parts.

The innovative nucleic acid processing apparatus is designed to perform all the steps between extraction and sequencing in one unit, reducing materials and labor demands by automating the process through modular units, each subunit designed for a specific preparation step.

The final product will combine all DNA/RNA sample preparation steps into a self-contained, compartmentalized apparatus wherein sample DNA/RNA is processed in one compartment (small 6″ X 6″ X 6″  cube) then sequentially moved to the next through the elastomeric membrane walls.

Applications/Industries:

•      Clinical diagnostics

•      Personalized medicine

•      Environmental monitoring

•      Genomics research

Capabilities:

•      Standard extraction and purification steps performed by a single unit.

•      Minimal need for liquid reagents

•      Labor and material saving

•      Simplified operation and easier training
